It’s easy for a bathroom to feel cluttered, especially if you’re prone to using a wide variety of products.

Things like shower gels, soaps, towels, toothbrushes, skincare and makeup can all contribute to a messy, cluttered space – so it’s worth considering some ways to keep your bathroom more organised. Take a look at some of our ideas, and they may lead to a calmer, stress-free bathroom.

1. Install a towel rack or a set of hooks to store your towels.

A towel rack or a set of hooks on the wall or the back of a door will give you a safe, sturdy place to hang your towels.

This will prevent them from becoming piled up and taking up valuable space in your bathroom. Any spare towels could be kept in a laundry hamper elsewhere in the home.

2. Purchase a small caddy for your dental products.

Small caddies or containers can be purchased to efficiently store your toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash and other daily hygiene products.

By keeping them all in one place, you won’t find them scattered across the sides of your sink.

3. Remove makeup and beauty products from the bathroom.

Many people store their makeup and beauty products in the bathroom, but did you know this can actually be damaging to the products and your health?

Bacteria thrives in moist environments, which can then cause bad reactions to your skin – as well as affecting the quality and longevity of your product.

Instead, keep them in the bedroom, dressing room or wherever you get ready in the morning that’s clean and dry.

4. Fit some shower shelves to keep your most used products to hand.

You can purchase small shelving units designed to fit in your shower, whether it’s in the corner or simply attached to a wall.

Once installed, it can house all your go-to shower products, so they’re ready and waiting when you need them.

5. As for the rest, keep them organised elsewhere.

If you have products you like enough to keep but don’t tend to use on a regular basis, why keep them in the bathroom to take up space?

Instead, find somewhere else to keep them organised. That way, you’ll know where they are when you want to use them, but your bathroom won’t become cluttered.

6. Use one soap at a time.

Soaps come in lots of different scents, but you really only need one at once. Keep your favourite soap by your sink and only replace it with another once it’s run out. There’s no point keeping multiple products that do the same thing at the side of your sink.

7. Throw out empty bottles as soon as possible.

Empty bottles can often get left in the shower or bathroom due to laziness, but try to remember to take them with you away from the bathroom once the product has run out.

When left in the bathroom, they’ll be serving no real purpose except to contribute to clutter. Throw them out (or even better, recycle them), and keep your bathing space clear.

8. If there’s space in your bathroom, a storage unit could drastically improve your organisation.

You can buy small chests of drawers or shelving units specifically for bathrooms. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, so you’ll surely be able to find one that suits your space.

A storage unit will serve as somewhere to stash your bathroom supplies, without having an impact on the way the room looks.

9. Make sure everyone in the family cleans up after their time in the bath or shower.

Make it a rule of your household that everyone should keep the bathroom clean and tidy after using it. This includes taking away any used towels ready for the laundry, putting away products that were used and ensuring surfaces are left clean.

10. Don’t keep your laundry in the bathroom.

Laundry can take up a lot of space and can often lead to clutter in the bathroom. Instead, give every family member a laundry bag or basket to keep in their bedroom. This can then be combined when it’s time to do laundry, without ever having to take up any space in the bathroom. Plus, it prevents clothes from being affected by excess moisture.

11. Keep a separate set of toiletries for guests.

Keeping a separate set of toiletries for guests will not only make them feel welcome but also stop them from having to search through your items to find what they need. If you pack them into a wash bag, they’ll also be able to carry them back and forth from the guest bedroom with no problem, keeping your bathroom as neat as ever.

12. Place small items in a separate basket to prevent them from being scattered around.

Small items are prone to creating clutter, so try to keep them in a designated space where they’ll be safe, organised and easy to find again.

This also helps if the items are potentially dangerous, such as razors or medicines, as they’ll be kept out of reach of children or animals

By following the tips above – as well as adding a few of your own, you’ll be well on your way to a clearer, clutter-free, more organised bathroom that you’ll be happy to spend time in.
